And Then There Were Five...

I've recently been telling you all about my trip to Amsterdam and the gig I saw there, and I've promised news of the other 2 gigs I recently attended, plus you'll be getting some information on the iPhone 3G (whether you want it or not!). But I'd like to take a moment out to tell you about something closer to home...

Pancakes and Canal Boats

I speak with a certainty known only to the deluded when I say I am sure you will recall my post of March last year entitled Custard and Canal Boats. In it, I told you about my trip to Lisbon, the wonderful desserts I ate there, and the strange discovery of a bus disguised as a canal boat. Well, just over a week ago now, I visited Amsterdam, where I indulged in pancakes (more than once!) and took a trip on a real life canal boat, so I figured it was time for a quick update...

Lily Livered

Being, as you doubtless are, an avid fan of this blog, you will no doubt remember the Bacon of Doom. The temptation to have bacon sandwiches every morning at work did wear off as I settled into my job, and I've since settled into a habit of toast and the occasional croissant. Last week, however, my culinary world was thrown into disarray.

I strolled down to the canteen for lunch one day, expecting the usual fare of mediocre slop which is unobjectionable and fairly cheap, but hardly cordon bleu. However I was shocked to be served a sweet and sour chicken, resplendent in a tasty sauce with highlights of ginger. I hardly knew what to do.

Paid my debt to society…

7 weeks and 1 day ago, I boarded a train to Evesham. "Where's that?", I hear you ask. Exactly.

36 days and 14 train journeys later, I sit at home, having the morning off and strangely looking forward to going back in to the office. I guess I should explain... In a place called Wood Norton in a land far, far away, lies BBC Training and Development. They run a course entitled Broadcast Engineering Foundation, which I have been attending. So, for 7 long weeks, I have been incarcerated at Wood Norton. Now, at last, I am free. My debt to society is paid, and I am finally allowed to re-join civilised society.

The Bacon Of Doom

Dear reader, I have a problem.

I'm sitting in my office at work (yeah I know I haven't told you anything about it yet... I will...) taking a quick morning break. I went down to the canteen half an hour ago to get a cup of tea because they have real tea which is much better than the machine rubbish I have to drink when they're not open. I was a good boy though, and managed to walk away with nothing but my cuppa.

Except now, merely half an hour later, I sit here with a bacon butty. I just couldn't resist... sitting here knowing that there was bacon, sausages and eggs just waiting to be eaten. I couldn't help myself!

This could be a real problem. If I get brunch every day at work as well as lunch, I could end up (a) very fat and (b) very broke. Food here is cheap (and hot drinks free - yay!) but still, it all adds up.

Must resist the bacon tomorrow... (yeah, right!)

Custard and Canal Boats

Well I promised more news soon, and it's been a while, so here goes. I apologise, by the way, for the custard theme which seems to be emerging in this blog. It's worrying me slightly...

Well it's been a big few weeks. YSTV's annual student union elections coverage rocked and was a huge amount of fun, though very tiring. Job hunting has continued, and I got asked for another interview. More on that story later...
