When I Was 22...
...it was a very good year. No, it actually was. Well OK, is.
It all started pretty well with my best set of uni results ever, an awesome week's holiday with friends and a great summer. 2 weeks sailing in Turkey was one of the best holidays ever, and then my 4th year at uni has been pretty OK too. But most of all, my big news...
For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of seeing or speaking to me in the last week, I have a job! Woo! Yep, after a rather long and complicated interview day 2 weeks ago, BBC Future Media & Technology have decided (unwisely, some might say - but that would just be mean) to offer me the position of Trainee Technologist. Translated into English, that means I have a job in Research & Development at one of the world's biggest broadcasters. Ace! The pay and benefits are pretty good, though it'll be an expensive place to live, being London/Surrey based. But it should be an interesting job and I can't wait. Best of all, I even get a summer holiday! I start in September...
In other news, last weekend was the National Student Television Association conference and awards, and I had a very very fun and drunken weekend. The fact that I'm a bit ill now may or may not have something to do with kissing 30 people on Saturday night. In my defense, it was a drunken competition with Rachel from YSTV to see who could kiss more people, not just me being a whore. And there was only tongues in 3 cases.
YSTV won 2 awards and a Highly Commended, which was ace (and nice to win for some of our programmes this year, not just idents and showreels and stuff) though disappointingly for me neither the show that I co-produce nor my own Best On-Screen Male entry won. We also didn't get anything for our Best Broadcaster entry, (which I edited with a bunch of other people) which was a shame as we got Highly Commended for it the last 2 years and were hoping to at least match that. Ah well.
So there we go, most things are pretty good in the world of Rowan, jus so long as you don't mention my final project (dissertation-type-thing) at uni. Lots to be done there...
